Cultural Change Experiment: Uncovering Blind Spots and Highlighting Dysfunctions through a temporary Scrum Master Change?

When we enter a new environment, we immediately notice a thousand things that are not right for us. We used this effect for an experiment: What becomes visible when a Scrum Master puts the team in the hands of a colleague for three sprints?
A great idea, you might think. After all, scrum masters are the ones who encourage the teams and the organization to try things out, uncover blind spots and make dysfunctions visible.
We tried it out at ZEISS Digital Innovation in an area with over 20 Scrum Masters. 4 Scrum Masters (almost) voluntarily swapped one of their two teams in pairs for three sprints. The Scrum Master swap experiment was insightful and surprising for all participants in many ways.
In this Meetup, we present how our cultural change experiment (external Scrum Master in the team) went. Who and what was celebrated, what was not so great and what we will do better next time.
