Z-Day 2012
SCALLOPS (http://goscallops.org/) (Sustainable Communities All Over Puget Sound) -click on link: HERE - Spring Forward Event (http://goscallops.org/2012/02/spring-forward-2012-meet-up/)
We have accepted an invitation to attend and table at the Scallops Spring Forward Event hosted by Eastside Scallops. We chose this option instead of creating an event in Seattle, as we have for the past 3 years, because this event perfectly coincides with efforts for progress toward a more sustainable city and region which is the basic principle of the Zeitgeist Movement as a sustainability advocacy movement.
For those interested in Z-Day 2012 events worldwide you can find more info.: HERE (http://zeitgeistseattle.thenewhive.com/z-day-2012?user=zeitgeistseattle)
For our event choice, there will be Seattle sustainability orgs. in attendance such as Sustainable West Seattle presenting the West Seattle Tool Library and their intentions to offer their mentorship to ALL sustainable orgs. in the region so that this shared community service can be realized as a resource in common.
We will present our concept for an ongoing event we have coined (can be changed):
"Seattle: Summit for Social Change"
It is a very simple proposal that leadership from ALL Seattle based sustainable organizations come together either monthly or quarterly in person to connect and share their work or challenges to more effectively communicate and support one another in this transition moving forward.
We are currently in the planning stages and invite your input. If anyone is interested in helping us organize this forum on our behalf and with the support of the other sustainable orgs. in Seattle we want your input. With some commitment from leadership to come together progress will be enhanced. The summit meetings should be simple, free, as transparent as possible, and open to the public.
some examples of sustainable orgs we have reached out to so far:
Neighborrow Seattle (http://zeitgeistseattle.thenewhive.com/neighborrow-seattle?user=zeitgeistseattle) West Seattle Tool Library (http://wstoollibrary.org/) Eastside Timebank (http://zeitgeistseattle.thenewhive.com/eastside-timebank?user=zeitgeistseattle) (we really need a Seattle Timebank) Transition Seattle (http://zeitgeistseattle.thenewhive.com/transition-seattle?user=zeitgeistseattle) Sustainable Wallingford (http://greenwallingford.ning.com/) Beacon Food Forest (http://beaconfoodforest.weebly.com/) By bringing together organizations such as these (the list is longer) we hope to create an opportunity for an open discussion, presentations, and support network integration which will help to create a more cohesive collaboration effort among sustainability orgs. in Seattle in order to reach a wider audience.
For further contacts that might be interested, you have any more suggestions for Z-Day planning, or whom may benefit from our goal with the Seattle summit concept please contact: zeitgeistseattle@gmail.com
thanks,
Rob Merwin: ZS-coordinator
