Background
Digital and online video games are on-track to be a 200+ Billion dollar industry in 2023, with an expected global audience of over 3 billion. With so many people taking part, the concepts of scalability and privacy are of heightened importance to consumers and creators alike.
Though improving graphics, enhancing gameplay, and lowering load times may take the lion’s share of technical interest in the video game space today, the next major innovations in the field may well be centered around Zero Knowledge Proofs.
ZKPs are a game-changing innovation. Their main use-cases are digital scalability and privacy. Though Zero Knowledge computing is in its early days, this groundbreaking technology is likely to play a role in the digital entertainment space.
For the uninitiated, Zero Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) are cryptographic protocols by which one party (an online system or person) can prove to another that a given statement is true, while the prover avoids conveying any additional information apart from the fact that the statement is indeed true.
Why is this important? Because Zero Knowledge technology enables the verifiable compute software stack to take form.
Verifiable Computation allows programs to delegate processing to untrusted environments, and then verify the correctness of the returned results, all with greater efficiency than performing the computation itself. This has major ramifications for decentralized applications, privacy preservation, and security.
