Cuban Cinema Night in Oxford: Stories of Resilience & Everyday Life
Join us for a special evening celebrating the richness, complexity, and evolving voices of contemporary Cuban cinema.
We’re delighted to welcome Oxford audiences to a unique double screening that brings together emerging filmmakers and powerful storytelling from Cuba today.
What’s on the programme:
Primera Enseñanza (Primary Education, 2025, 14 min)
Directed by Aria Sánchez and Marina Meira
Set within the intimate yet emotionally charged space of a classroom, this short film explores childhood, silence, and the subtle power dynamics that shape young girls’ experiences.
Cuentos de un Día Más (Tales of Another Day, 2021, 90 min)
Coordinated by renowned Cuban filmmaker Fernando Pérez
A mosaic of six interwoven stories, this feature captures life in Havana during the COVID-19 pandemic—moving between solitude and solidarity, humour and uncertainty. The film offers a deeply human portrait of resilience and emotional survival in extraordinary times.
