[Cafe Palestine][Before the Genocide] “The Phoenix of Gaza” with Yousef Al-Helou

EN: In July 2023, London based Palestinian journalist and filmmaker, Yousef Al-Helou, returned home to Gaza. Equipped with a camera, he recorded what was to become some of the last footage of Gaza before Israel’s October 8th 2023 assault.
Yousef Al-Helou’s unique personal film, “The Phoenix of Gaza” was shot just weeks before the genocide began in 2023. It depicts Gaza before its destruction, now serving as an archive of its past.

Join on the 23rd of November for a film screening and discussion with Yousef Al-Helou afterwards.

DE: Im Juli 2023 kehrte Yousef Al-Helou, ein in London lebender palästinensischer Journalist und Filmemacher, in seine Heimat Gaza zurück. Ausgestattet mit einer Kamera hielt er fest, was einige der letzten Aufnahmen von Gaza vor dem Angriff Israels am 8. Oktober 2023 werden sollten.

Yousef Al-Helous einzigartiger persönlicher Film «The Phoenix of Gaza» wurde nur wenige Wochen vor Beginn des Völkermords im Jahr 2023 gedreht. Er zeigt Gaza vor seiner Zerstörung und dient nun als Archiv seiner Vergangenheit.

Am 23. November wird der Film gezeigt und anschliessend ein Gespräch mit Yousef Al-Helou gehalten.
