What we’re about
This group is intended as an OPEN FORUM for anyone interested in cross-country skiing: first timers and Engadin Ski Marathon trainers alike.
We will also add some Cross Skating and Rollerski during the dry months
Everybody is welcome to post suggestions-proposals at all levels of skills and duration. The group will be not for profit. If somebody wants to step up and organise events, you more than welcome! If anybody wishes to arrange an event and charge (separately), that will have nothing to do with the group.
Whilst we mostly use English totally happy about using German... don´t be shy!
Lastly, anybody participating in activities does so at her or his own risk.
Finding snow on a warm year
Generally you will find tracks in the bigger mountains of Graubunden, Wallis and Uri as these are often valley tracks surrounded by 3000 metre mountains which provide ample shade. Safe bets are generally Engadin (plus Scuol-Zernez-Valmustair), Obergoms, Sedrun.
Generally you will find better snow on tracks which are on a north facing side or below a big north facing slope.
There is a small number of higher altitude tracks which are nearer and may open when all the flatlands have no snow... Melchsee Frutt with its 2000 metres, Salwideli in Sorenberg with its 1300-1500, or Stoos with its 1400, Rigi (1400) very ocassionally from Kaltbad.

ROLLERSKIS AND CROSS SKATES IN SWITZERLAND, RULES
The information that I have from the web suggest that all paths are allowed provided that they are not main roads or highways, and that there is not a sign prohibiting pedestrians or a sign prohibiting skates.
It would appear that you can go with these even in the walking paths where bicycles are not allowed.
https://www.verkehrsclub.ch/ratgeber/zu-fuss/fahrzeugaehnliche-geraete/
Pedestrians will have right of way, so be mindful.
