• What we'll do
It is often said that the BEAM is not a good choice for computational workloads. Let's shatter those preconceptions! Natively compiled functions (NIFs); running external commands ... can it be made easy? Can it be made safe? Can we just make our Erlang / Elixir code fast in the first place without resorting to native code? Bring your war stories, as we look at erl_nif, nifpp, ports, c-nodes, SafeExecEnv (a new open source library!), and optimizing Erlang / Elixir code (using Jason, a pure Elixir JSON implementation that is nearly as fast as C-based nifs, as a case study..)
