Uetliberg hike and German after work

Details

We enjoy an evening outdoors keeping to a healthy regular hiking exercise and practicing German together.

Recommend minimum German level B1-B2.
Fluent German speakers who are just interested in a regular after work hike and don’t mind listening to broken German are also welcome and encouraged to join :)

During the event we converse in German! Or feel free to just listen if you prefer or run out of breath ;-)

***** Weather ********

☀️🌦
We hike also in light rain however if the weather turns out unsafe (e.g. lightning/storms, heavy rain) I may modify or cancel the plan.

Please only sign up if you are ok with this.

***** Plan ********

18:30 meet at Albisgütli Tram (13) stop. Next to the fountain.
18:35 we start walking up the steep path (if you arrive late it will be up to you to catch up).

The path is steep!

One-way stats going up:
Lenght: 2.5 km
Ascent: 371m
Hiking time: c. 1h (one way)

At the top we will enjoy the panorama (and a chance for some refreshments if there is a wish).

We walk back down to the start point (or those who prefer can catch the train back to Zurich HB from the Uetliberg train station - trains each x:05, x:35 take about 30 mins to reach HB).

***** signing up ********
In the interest of fostering an inclusive environment and meaningful interactions as well as the enjoyment of the outdoors I like to keep the groups small.
Please only sign up if you are committed to come and be mindful of the impact of last minute cancellations.
Waiting lists are managed automatically by meetup. Next in line takes the spot.
Come off the waiting list if your availability changes!

**** checklist suggestion ****

  • Layered outdoors clothing (you will get hot walking up but you may need warmer clothes when you stop)
  • Appropriate outdoor walking shoes with good grip
  • Drinking water
  • Rain protection (be prepared for any weather)
  • Money/card for refreshments at the top as desired
  • Snacks (as desired)
  • A flashlight just in case you decide to stop longer at the top
  • Good mood and a smile :)

***** Safety and responsibility ****
This is not a guided hike/walk. I am not a guide or a language teacher.
This is just a way to connect adults with a similar interest in practicing German while spending time outdoors.

You participate on your own authority and entirely at your own risk. You particularly need to assure adequate assessment of the suitability of the activity as if you were going by yourself. The practical info provided above is only for general guidance. I am not a professional guide.
