### HIKE DESCRIPTION

This is a demanding alpine hike from Landquart (CH) to Steg (LI), crossing into Austria and summiting Naafkopf (2’570 m) – the tri-border peak where Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Austria meet.

  • Length: ~35 km
  • Ascent/Descent: +2’678 m / -1’922 m
  • Duration: ~11 hours (including breaks)
  • SAC difficulty: T3 (white-red)
  • Scenery highlights: Rhine valley start, rugged alpine ridges, Naafkopf summit with panoramic views over three countries, descent into the tranquil Liechtenstein side.
  • Weather: Forecast cloudy with light sun – good visibility, but please prepare for alpine conditions (wind, possible sudden changes).

### TIME & MEETING POINT

We meet 06:00h sharp at Zürich HB under the Blue Angel.

  • 06:12h IR35 Zürich HB → Landquart (arrival 07:38h)

Please be on time. This is a long day hike and delays are not possible.

### HIKE ITINERARY

  • 07:45h: Start hike from Landquart
  • Late morning: Climb through alpine terrain toward Naafkopf
  • ~13:30h: Summit Naafkopf (2’570 m) – short lunch break with panoramic views
  • Afternoon: Descent into Liechtenstein via alpine ridges and valleys
  • ~19:00h: Arrival in Steg (LI)

### RETURN TRAVEL

  • From Steg (LI): Bus connection to Sargans or Buchs SG (depending on timing)
  • Train back to Zürich HB (ETA ~21:30h–22:00h)

(Exact return time depends on pace & bus connections – expect a late arrival.)

### NOTES & REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong fitness and endurance required: 35 km & 2’678 m uphill is a very demanding day.
  • Bring sufficient water (2–3L), snacks, and a packed lunch.
  • Hiking boots, poles, and layers suitable for alpine conditions.
  • Summit weather can be windy and cold even if sunny in the valley.
