In Vino Veritas (T1)
Details
This is a real hike (22km / 5¾ hrs).
Or not. Or maybe. Well ... a mix of hiking and wine tasting.
On Friday 1 May (and on 2/3 May), winemakers open their doors. It is the «Day of the Open Wine Cellar». So let’s have a look.

But still: The main idea is hiking. We will walk with just a bit of side activity.
IN SHORT:
- 08:05h: Meet under the «Blue Angel»
- Hike of ca. 5¾ hrs (pure walking time)
- Some wine tasting (... which will bring it to 8-ish hours)

TRAVEL - OUTBOUND:
- 08:05h: Meet under the «Blue Angel»
- 06:16h: S12 (dir. Schaffhausen) Zürich HB (platform 43/44) to Andelfingen
- 08:54h: Arrival at Andelfingen & start of the hike
- 09:30h: After ca. ½ hour of walking, arrival at the first vineyard/winemaker
THE HIKE:
- Duration: 5¾ hrs (plus all the breaks)
- Distance: 22km
- Ascent/descent: 480m / 490m
- SAC classification: T1 (yellow)

- Big backpack to carry all the wine you buy
LUNCH:
- Around 12:30h-ish at Flaach or Berg am Irchel
- Whatever food is available at the winemakers there

WINE CELLARS ALONG THE ROUTE:
- If you look at the map (see link), you will see that we pass many winemakers participating in the open day.
- I put a pin into the map for the winemakers en-route (incl. the website address of the winemaker)
TRAVEL - RETURN:
- Target: Return from Eglisau train station
- Trains (S9) from Eglisau every hour at xx:21h and xx:51h
- Travel time Eglisau-Zürich HB: 32 minutes
- Else ... bus from as far as we get
TICKET COST w/Halbtax:
- CHF 14.- (w/HT) for a ZVV all-zones 9-o'clock day-pass - on a public holiday it is valid before 09:00h!
- (if you need a ticket to get to HB from anywhere in the ZVV, get the all-zones day pass already then!)
- Plus lunch plus any items you might buy on the way.
