While scouting the net to steal and trade valuable information for currency, computer programmer and hacker Neo (Keanu Reeves) has always wondered if there is something more to reality. When he is contacted by Morpheus (Lawrence Fishbourne) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), two elusive and dangerous cyber-terrorists on the run from the law, Neo discovers that his monotonous life is anything but.
