Movie Night: The Congress (2013)

Details
In a mesmerizing blend of live-action and psychedelic animation, The Congress follows a fictionalized Robin Wright as an aging actress who makes a pivotal decision: to sell her digital likeness to a major studio, ensuring her image can be used in perpetuity without her physical presence. Two decades later, as her digital avatar becomes an eternal superstar, Wright enters a fantastical animated world where people consume hallucinogenic drugs to transform into any avatar they desire, blurring the lines between identity, reality, and illusion. As she navigates this vibrant yet unsettling landscape, where individuality and authenticity seem to vanish, Wright embarks on a desperate quest to reconnect with her ailing son in the increasingly desolate "real" world, ultimately questioning the true cost of eternal youth and manufactured happiness.
Loosely based on The Futurological Congress by Stanisław Lem, and directed by Ari Folman (Waltz with Bashir, Where Is Anne Frank?).
