Movie Night: Gattaca (1997)

In a not-too-distant future, society is stratified by genetic engineering. Valids are genetically perfect, designed for success, and hold all positions of power, while Invalids, who were conceived naturally, are deemed inferior and relegated to menial tasks. Meet Vincent Freeman (Ethan Hawke), an Invalid born with a heart defect and a predicted short lifespan. Vincent dreams of space travel, a dream reserved only for the genetically superior at the prestigious Gattaca space agency.

Determined to defy his destiny, he assumes the identity of genetically perfect but paralyzed Jerome Morrow (Jude Law), enduring a rigorous deception to bypass the genetic discrimination embedded in every aspect of daily life. The story explores his struggle to maintain this elaborate charade in a world obsessed with genetic purity, all while pursuing his aspirations against insurmountable odds.
