In the sprawling, neon-lit metropolis of Neo-Tokyo in 2019, Kaneda is the leader of a delinquent biker gang. When his friend Tetsuo is injured during a crash and taken by a secret government organization, he becomes the subject of a military experiment that awakens devastating telekinetic powers.
As Tetsuo’s stability collapses, he sets a destructive course toward the legendary Akira, threatening to trigger the same cataclysm that destroyed the city decades prior.
Katsuhiro Otomo's landmark film remains the definitive pillar of cyberpunk and a masterclass in hand-drawn animation. Shown in Japanese, with English subtitles.
