WILHELM TELL An adaption from Friedrich Schiller by Milo Rau
Details
After a longer pause of the activities of the Schauspielhaus Theater Lovers Zurich group, we would like to reignite the fire with a special production of a Swiss "classic"! WILHELM TELL!
Milo Rau, one of the most famous Swiss directors, takes on the most famous Swiss myth: WILHELM TELL in an adaption from Friedrich Schiller – a combination that promises excitement!
The successful play from last season is back! It is our pleasure to offer this production at Schauspielhaus Zürich exclusively with English overtitles.
Following its premiere, Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote: «The performance is extremely dense, sometimes banal, often grandiose. Above all, however, the true stories of real people, which ultimately include the actors, depict exactly what the exile ensemble was aiming for in 1939: comprehensive humanity.»
Meanwhile RTS claimed the production to be simply «Masterly»!
In preparation for the production, Swiss director Milo Rau follows in the footsteps of William Tell as he invites on a road trip through the country, bringing together actors, laypeople, gentle humanists and free radicals under one banner. “We have to break free!” is the simultaneously utopian and provocative call of this ragtag group. Break free from what? In exchange for what?
