📚 [Spanish Reading Book Club]
Welcome to "Leer en Español" — a Spanish Reading Club where we read aloud stories and novels in Spanish.
Our goal is to help participants naturally improve their reading, listening, and speaking skills by regularly engaging with the rhythm, pronunciation, and expressions of Spanish. 🗣️
We’re looking for fellow learners to join this co-created reading circle!

🧑‍🏫 [Looking for Supporters!]
We welcome volunteer supporters who can assist with pronunciation and basic grammar notes.

### What we’d love from supporters:

  • Learning Support:
Simple grammar or vocab tips, notes on intonation or phrasing, or comments like “Oh, that was the father speaking!”
  • Facilitation & Atmosphere:
Help foster a safe and relaxed space — encourage hesitant readers and create a judgment-free environment.
  • Support Ongoing Habit Building:
Help participants stay consistent. This group values continuity over perfection. If that resonates with you, please consider joining us.

Supporters will gain experience in group facilitation, language education, and using Spanish actively. Feel free to reach out!

🎯 [Purpose of the Reading Club]

  • Ease vague anxiety & take steps forward
By investing even just one hour per week in Spanish, we reduce the feeling of “I’m doing nothing” or “I’ll never get there.”
  • Build vocabulary and expression
Reading across genres helps us increase vocabulary and express ideas with nuance — like using “purchase,” “acquire,” or “buy out” instead of always saying “buy” in Japanese. We aim for the same richness in Spanish.
  • Train Spanish speech muscles
While Spanish pronunciation is similar to Japanese, some sounds and muscles are not naturally used. Even if you know a word, you may struggle to say it — we train here to gain control and confidence.
  • Master Spanish rhythm
Through reading aloud, we build intuition for tenses, articles, plurals, and prepositions. These memory-based experiences stay in our minds and bodies.
  • Create consistent habits
A shared time with peers helps us stay motivated. Everyone here is a non-native learner — we can make mistakes without shame. We’re all on this journey together.

🧠 [Expected Outcomes of Reading Aloud]

  • Improve tempo, intonation, and phrasing
In the beginning, your eyes and mouth may move at the same speed, and you may not grasp who’s speaking. (The host has been there too — only realizing after a reading that it was a father-daughter conversation!)
But gradually, we build the ability to:
    • Read ahead with our eyes
    • Recognize natural breaks in sentences
    • Predict which parts to emphasize

🧰 [How to Use the Club]

  • Try using new vocabulary or expressions in your work or conversations with native speakers.
  • Practice tricky pronunciations repeatedly. You might try having an AI pronounce them or compare with your own recordings.

✏️ [This is a Challenge]
This club started because... it didn’t exist! 😅
I just wanted a study circle to join regularly.
I earned DELE B2 about 10 years ago, but without much chance to use Spanish, I’ve felt the need to relearn it. This club is also part of that journey for me.
It’s my first time running a book club — a personal challenge!
I plan to start small. If this resonates with you, please DM me and join this adventure!

📣🔔 [A Note on Club Operations]
We’re starting with one session per week, but we may increase to two or three per week if interest grows.
Thank you in advance for your understanding!
