ACE (@AgileEx) A Christmas Cracker with Karl Scotland

Agile Leadership: Advanced Skills for Leaders in Agile Organisations How do managers find their place in an adaptive/Agile work culture? What does a manager do in the context of self-organising teams? How can you help your business achieve the promised benefits of Agile? How do leaders foster collaboration resulting in motivated and engaged teams? This talk gives an overview of the tools Agile leaders rely on to build and support an Agile organisation. It is a summary of the best of 12 years of learning about how to adopt, scale and transition teams and organisations into Agile businesses.

Karl's presentation included several recommendations for books, I'd like to add a couple of my own:

    * The Leader's Guide to Radical Management - Steve Denning
    * Epistemology: A Beginner's Guide - Robert M. Martin

LGRM addresses the issue of locally optimised transformations, where the adoption of agile has been confined to the software teams whilst the wider systematic changes grow in criticality.
Epistemology is where much of Cynefin is rooted, and a fresh approach to scepticism where one's thoughts focus on the determinations we can make about knowledge and belief can be highly useful.

A great companion to Karl's talk is by a former colleague of both ours Katherine Kirk, which she gave at the Lean Kanban Central Europe Conference:

Hi everyone. I've uploaded the presentation to slideshare here: http://www.meetup.com/ACE-Agile-Coaching-Exchange/photos/19138682/#[masked]

Also I forgot to mention that some of the topics I covered are part of this training course we're running at the end of January:

Fantastic session tonight. A couple of the people i spoke to said it was the best KCE event they'd attended.
Thanks to Karl, Helen, Ben, Duncan et al, ASPS and Ripple Rock for all your work!

Interesting, thought-provoking and useful in equal measure. Which is what you'd expect from Karl. I look forward to more crackers in 2014. Merry Christmas.

Thanks for the meetup & good to see everyone! So much information! Perhaps next time it would be good to focus in on just one or two of the concepts in more depth. See you next year!

Unfortunately i couldn't make it. Will a video be up somewhere?

    December 19, 2013

    • Benjamin C.

Hi Janaka, Sorry we don't have a video for this session. We did do a sort of "spike" into filming at Roman Pilcher's talk in October but had a couple of technical issues that meant the resulting video was not to the kind of quality we'd consider suitable. We need to overcome these shooting bugs and also find an easy way to get videos into some kind of slide accompanied format with minimal fuss and cost after an event. We'll look into it again in the future but for now it's not something we're able to do very well. Hope you'll be able to make an event in the future. All the best, Ben

Cracker of a presentation.. I, as a lot of people I've talked to at sessions like these, have wondered what an agile business is, what it does and how it works.. and Karl explained it tonight. Plenty to think about, I'm sure the reading list alone will keep some of us busy over Christmas :)

Hope everyone is looking forward to tonight. Ben and I will be sporting our festive hats :)

Is this going to be recorded? I can't make the event, but it would be great if it was uploaded for viewing at a later date.

    December 13, 2013

    • Helen M.

Unfort not. We had issues with the last video and still not published yet. We will look into this again in the new year.

  • Rex L.

Sorry, clashes with work commitments see you all in the new year
