recap June 28th games/meeting

Sorry the delay on the recap, but I only have one day off!

THE GAMES: Well if you were not there you missed it, we had 6 games going (yes I said SIX!), and you missed it. We had room for a couple more players, and its ok because Ben got to play but was an extra DM waiting in the wings (glad he got to play). You should have been there we had food, games, and yes even A/C! Saturday's seem slower than Sunday's so it there was more of us than anyone else in the place.

HELP FOR ME: I now have 3 assistant organizers to help out with the expanding of the meetup.... we now have over 400+ members and growing. We are the 4th largest roleplaying group in meetup (5th actually if you count that Seattle had two large groups with about 300 members each). But I think thats quite impressive, two of the organizers (Anissa & Hoyt) will work on expanding meetups in areas outside my range and time constraints, so please treat them well. The 3rd the young spunky Mikey is there to help those who may feel a bit shy or out of place to help them know they will fit in our group of great, intelligent, geeky, funny and fun loving people. I really have been overloaded with life and all the things that running this group entails so hopefully with a little help from them and a few other people who have offered help now and in the future, I can run the group more smoothly.

EVENTS SCHEDULED: There are now three more events scheduled on the calender for gaming so check them out and please RSVP so we know if your coming or if your not. Plus one which is a totally social event with all the meetups in the Atlanta area, and it is now definite I got the night off, so I will be there, yeahh! Still looking for a consensus opinion on where to meet in Gwinnett, help me out here guys, I have not lived out there in years. Please goto the message board with your suggestions, opinions and votes.

FEES: Yes, I said that evil, vile word, FEES! While yes it is true the group does not charge any fees now to do anything. Since a took over almost two months ago, I have been incurring all the fees associated with the meetup both through the site as well as a few other expenses. I would still not like to charge an fees if I can help it but I probably make less money than most of you out there. So I have started to ask for donations to the meetup not only for the site fees but the others as well. I have ideas to help the group grow even more, and while its now a lot of money it is more than I can afford to take upon all by myself. A have a workmate who is working on a picture to use on our main page to make it more attractive, while not expensive as an amature artist, he will be looking for a donation of money for his work. The second most important thing is I would like to make up flyers to put on the tables and hand out at DragonCon this year to help find those people around Atlanta that are dying for a group like ours. Next year I would hope would could have shirts made up to find each other in the crowds at DragonCon and maybe do something else there or at other Cons as well.

POLLS/MESSAGE BOARD: Please be ready for some more polls shortly to help make decisions with the group. And remember the message board is not only for group meetings, disscusions, and the like. You can use it to meet people to start games, looking for more players, need a new DM, etc. You can also use it to talk about current games with what is going on, experince points, what your group is going to do in the future. That way when your group gets together to play, all the mundane items are out of the way and you can just play.

GAMES: Please post on any meeting RSVP comments if your going to run a game so people can contact you. You don't have to run a D&D game, we really have lots of people wanting to play other games as well, including me!

NAME OF THE GROUP: I talked about changing the name of the group to make it more inclusive of other games besides just D&D. We have a huge group of people and we should use that to help expand it even more. I had thought of changing it to the "ATLANTA DUNGEONS & DRAGONS/FANTASY/SCIENCE FICTION ROLEPLAYING MEETUP", but it is quite long. Then someone said I need to add horror to it, which may be true. One member of the group had another great idea of a name that used to be used by a non-profit group which ended up being what I think he said is now DragonCon, and we may be able to use that. But regardless I am going to post a thread on the message board and please tell me what you think.

But I think this was the best meeting yet, but I will always hope for more.

See you all soon,

Michael
