Our Vision is a world in which powerful and conscious elders join together in common purpose to bring healingjoy and connection to our lives, our families, our communities and our world.

Our Mission is to create the communities where we re-imagine our old agelook after one another and embody the wisdom that will enable us to help heal the future.

A group within the Elders' Guild is looking at ways to co-create affordable opportunities for cooperative group living, cohousing, group houses, and the like.

Elders’ Guild Gatherings are held the Second and Fourth Sunday of each month at the North Berkeley Senior Center, 1901 Hearst Avenue (corner of MLK, near Downtown Berkeley BART).

The first gathering each month is more general, with a variety of topics, while the second one focusses on a member's life story.

The Elders’ Guild is Multi-Generational And Multi-Cultural

  • All Gatherings are held from 1:30 to 4:00
  • Schmoozing from 1:30 to 1:45
  • Gatherings Start promptly at 1:45
  • Bring Special Treats to Share

The Elders’ Guild is a project of Live Oak Institute, which has been working since 1977 to create an empowering new culture of conscious aging for the greater good. In the end it’s all about starting here and building an Elders’ Movement that will spread throughout the land. It is inspired in part by the work of Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, the author of "From Age-ing to Sage-ing" and the Spiritual Eldering Institute.

I'm a founding member and volunteer on the board of the Elders' Guild, and have found the community meetings a great way to meet other elders and aspiring elders, get inspired, share wisdom, and forge connections. I write about the founders, Barry and Debby Barkan, in my Aging in Community chapter in the book Audacious Aging -- Raines
