About us
Welcome to the Appalachian Mountain Club Delaware Valley Chapter (AMC-DV)!
AMC-DV is one of the Philadelphia region’s largest, oldest, and most active outdoor clubs, with 800+ outdoor-related activities each year (most are free!). Join us on one of our many events and trips in and around the Greater Philadelphia area, the Lehigh Valley, New Jersey, Delaware, and beyond. Activities and trips include hiking, paddling, backpacking, biking, trail maintenance, conservation, outdoor education, and more. All activities are led by trained and experienced leaders! Our chapter is part of the national Appalachian Mountain Club, which offers a wide range of trips on the East Coast and beyond.

Finding AMC Delaware Valley Activities
Not all AMC-DV activities are posted here on Meetup. To explore all DV activities for hiking, backpacking, biking, trail maintenance, and more, visit DV Monthly Activities. A Google calendar view of DV activities will display. Or, for more detailed listings, visit the AMC Outdoors Connector activities finder.
To find outdoors opportunities in NJ, NY, and New England, visit https://activities.outdoors.org/s/? to view all activities of all chapters.
What make our MeetUp activities different?
There are a lot of great MeetUp groups out there to choose from. A key thing that sets AMC-DV apart from some of them is that our activity leaders undergo training and are experienced outdoors people who volunteer their time and expertise. Their goal: to share fun, friendly and safe outdoors experiences. While safety is their primary concern, participants must also accept risk and responsibility for their own safety.

Join me for a 5-6 mile moderate paced hike at Core Creek park.
We will hike on wooded and meadow trails. This is a moderate hike. The trail does have sections that can be a bit wet, muddy, and uneven. We will be on some bike/hike trails so keep an eye out for bikers. Wooded trails can be rocky. The trails are relatively level maybe 200 feet elevation.
Bring sturdy footwear, water.
Inclement weather may cancel hike. If doubtful, check the status of the hike on www.amcdv.org and check the activity calendar or contact the leader.
All participants will need to agree to and sign a paper AMC legal waver sheet just prior to the hike if you did not register online in the AMC Outdoor Connector.

Fall Foliage Bike Ride along the Delaware River (Rail/Canal Trails)
Bull's Island Recreation Area, 2185 Daniel Bray Hwy, Stockton, NJ 08559, USA, Stockton, NJ, US[Note: All participants must register online in the AMC Outdoor Connector website and sign the online AMC waiver! Noting interest here on Meetup is not enough.]
Enjoy Halloween-day biking amidst peak fall foliage on a 22-mile bike ride along the Delaware River in Bucks (PA) and Hunterdon (NJ) counties, from Bulls Island State Park to Frenchtown, NJ. You'll even see a covered bridge! We'll do a loop ride along the Delaware Canal Trail on the PA side and the Delaware and Raritan Canal Bike Path on the NJ side. We'll take a brief rest stop at the turn-around point in Frenchtown (bring your own snacks, etc.). The path on the PA side is very pretty, but can be a bit narrow in places and there are occasional roots to deal with. The NJ side is wide and smooth gravel with plenty of colorful trees. There will be a VERY short spot of road riding, like 1/4 mile, as we connect the two trails at Frenchtown.- Pace will be 10-12 mph, so this is not a beginner ride; but we will take breaks and regroup as needed.
- The start is at Bulls Island State Park in NJ, which has water and restrooms. Parking can be tight there on a nice day, and instructions will be sent to registered attendees.
- A properly fitting helmet and enough water for the ride is required.
- Bring a bike in good working condition and a spare tube plus any necessary tools. Wider tires are required, gravel or hybrid bikes work best. Mountain bikes will suffice, but are a bit overkill and you'll work harder.
- E-bikes are ok with me, but you are on your own for repairs, and NJ has some weird e-bike laws at the moment so that's up to you to figure out.
- Inclement weather will cancel the ride (although the weather looks good at this point) and participants will be notified by the leader.
- To attend you must register (free) on the AMC Website.
Please note: In order to comply with Pennsylvania youth protection laws, all children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or guardian. This policy applies to all events offered by the Delaware Valley chapter as well as other Chapter events within the state of Pennsylvania.

Valley Forge Saturday Afternoon Hike
Valley Forge Artillery Park, East Inner Line Rd, Valley Forge, pa, USJoin us for some enjoyable exercise: an approximately 4-6 mile hike on trails in Valley Forge National Historical Park. The difficulty level will be moderate, with speeds around 3 mph in the easier sections, and lower in hilly and uneven sections (rocks, tree roots, etc.); total elevation gain will be around 600 – 1,100 feet. Trails on Mt. Misery and/or Mt. Joy will be included as well as flatter areas. We will stop periodically, especially at the tops of hills if some go up faster than others, so that we all continue on the same hike.
Meet in the Artillery Park parking lot, at the end near the restrooms. GPS coordinates: 40.0939, -75.4490
Bring water, clothing appropriate for the weather (layers work well), sturdy footwear (hiking shoes or boots work well), and a smile. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on a 6’ or shorter leash as required by the park.
If the hike is canceled, such as due to weather, we plan to announce this at least two hours in advance.
AMC is a non-profit organization and the hike leaders are volunteers. All participants will need to sign the AMC liability release agreement (click here to review it in advance). Children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who will need to sign the agreement for them. Alternatively, you can register on the AMC website and sign the agreement in advance there. The AMC website also shows many other AMC events that might interest you.
AMC is an outdoor recreation and conservation organization that, among other things, helps maintain the hiking trails we use in Valley Forge and many other parks. Non-members are welcome on this hike, but membership is inexpensive and supports the great work AMC does (click here to learn more).
