20s/30s Event: Schuykill Canal & River Paddle
Location not specified yetActivity Type: Paddling | Flatwater
Difficulty: 3 - Easy
Trip Leader(s): Lisa Lombardo, John Chalikian
Registration Type: Registration
Please Click Here to RSVP: https://activities.outdoors.org/a5UVX00000183Y1
Audience: 20’s & 30’sDescription: The Schylkill river runs through the base of Phoenixville, PA, a quirky town that was voted Best Small Town in America last year. Our fun, relaxing kayak trip will start a few miles below the town at Fitzwater Station (the "Fitz"), a canal-side restaurant that also houses Port Providence Canoe & Kayak rentals.
For beginner paddlers who would like to experience a ride in a kayak or canoe, this is a great trip since boats will be available for rent. Experienced paddlers can also enjoy a pleasant day on the water meeting old friends and making new friends. You can rent a boat, or bring your own.
The trip will start with a 2-mile canal paddle up to Lock 60. This leg of the trip will give paddlers ample time to get accustomed to the boat and making it go where you want it to go. At Lock 60, we will leave the canal and carry our boats over to the Schuykill River. When we reach the takeout point on the Schuykill, we will carry the boats back up to the canal for a short paddle back to the Fitz. Overall, we will paddle about 5 miles or so, stopping to swim and snack along the way.
We should be off the water about 2:00PM depending on how much we swim and play. You may not want to eat too much because post-paddle, you are all invited to join the group for lunch and drinks at the the Fitz bar and grill. We can hang out on their deck with a view of the canal. (Leader testimony: Fitzwater Station is known for their exceptional smoked brisket) .
This is a nice trip with no shuttle, easy parking and no drive for refreshments. Prices for boat rentala from Port Providence Canoe and Kayak Rentals includes:
- Kayak - $44/day
- Tandem kayak - $55/day
- Tandem canoe - $50/day
- Life jackets (PFD) and paddle included
We will send a suggested checklist for what to bring/gear to your email address. For safety, while on the water your PFD (Personal Flotation Device) must be on and secured. No flip flops or inflatable life jackets will be allowed. Toe protection is important; old sneakers or water shoes are best.
To register and sign the AMC waiver, you must click on the Registration link that appears with this activity posting. You are not registered for the trip until you sign the waiver and provide necessary email and contact information so that we can get in touch with you.

20s/30s Hike: 6-mile Waterfalls Loop hike at Ricketts Glen State Park
Location not specified yetActivity Type: Hiking, Local Walks, & Trail Running | Hiking
Difficulty: 4 - Moderate
Trip Leader(s): Alyssa Hannon, Lisa Lombardo
Registration Type: Registration
Please Click Here to RSVP: https://activities.outdoors.org/a5UVX0000019ikP
Audience: 20’s & 30’sDescription: Ricketts Glen State Park is one of the most scenic areas in Pennsylvania. This large park encompasses 13,193 acres in Luzerne, Sullivan, and Columbia counties. Join the 20s/30s for a whimsical hike around some of the best waterfalls on the East Coast!
This loop will take us around the 22 named waterfalls of the glen, as we hike through some pretty incredible stone features and swathes of old-growth forest.
The hike is 6.3 miles in total length with about 1,040 feet of total elevation gain. The first mile takes us along the Kitchen Creek, before the elevation picks up a bit into mile-2 and 3 with a mix of slopes and stone steps. The trail gets a bit steep and a bit narrow in some places, so this may not be the most suitable for beginners. Some of the steps and switchbacks can get a little slippery, so we strongly recommend bringing hiking poles (we will have a few spare poles). The elevation peaks about halfway through the hike, through a forest of pines, hemlocks, and massive stone boulders.
Please dress appropriately for the weather on the day, bringing layers, a hat, sunscreen, bug repellent, etc. Part of the trail close to the creek bank may be a little muddy, so wear sturdy shoes you do not mind potentially getting dirty.
Pack snacks, a lunch, and plenty of water that you can enjoy along the trail. (We plan to stop and take lunch halfway through the hike, so please bring a packed lunch.)
Heavy rain or extreme heat will cancel the hike.
Registered participants will be notified by 7 am on the day of the hike if a cancellation is necessary. We will meet at the covered picnic tables just behind the restrooms in the lot off of rt 118 (41.300340998207446, -76.27307509356635). The lot can fill up fast on the weekend, so please plan accordingly (t here will be bathrooms at the trail head).
We’ll be having a post-hike social at the Crooked Creek bar & grill just down the road, an opportunity to cool off after the long hike.
This hike is being led by Alyssa & Jeff, two new leaders of the Delaware Valley Chapter so come out and show your support! Please reach out to Jeff if you can give rides or need a ride.
If you’d like to bring a dog, please reach out to Jeff or Alyssa beforehand. We love our furry friends, but dogs must be well-behaved and leashed. Some parts of this trail may be a little narrow/steep for dogs, so please consider this info.
If you are running late or have questions, call or text Jeff at 484-942-6656.

20s/ 30s Hike: 5.8 Mile Cushetunk Mountain preserve
Location not specified yetActivity Type: Hiking, Local Walks, & Trail Running | Hiking
Difficulty: 4 - Moderate
Trip Leader(s): Patricia Woodruff, Lisa Lombardo
Registration Type: Show & Go
Please Click Here to RSVP: https://activities.outdoors.org/a5UVX000001A4mX
Audience: 20’s & 30’sDescription: Cushetunk Mountain Preserve is part of a horseshoe-shaped mountain that was formed by volcanic activity during the Jurassic Period about 200 million years ago. The Lenni Lenape called this area “Cushetunk,” meaning “place of hogs,” due to the settlers’ hogs who at times escaped and roamed the mountains. The natural bowl shape of the valley led to the state’s selection of this site for the creation of Round Valley Reservoir in the 1960s. In 1981, Hunterdon county acquired 380 acres as open space that now makes up the preserve that overlooks the reservoir.
We will be hiking a 5.8 miles loop trail with about 1,200 feet of elevation gain enjoying lovely views of Round Valley reservoir through the trees. This trail has two very steep sections, one hill we will be walking up and likely taking breaks, and the second going down hill.
The trail is dirt and does have roots and rocks in sections. Please wear sturdy walking or hiking shoes with good grip, and trekking poles are strongly recommended for the trail conditions. If it has recently rained, trials may be muddy. Bring plenty of water and snacks.
Hike may be canceled due to inclement weather. Hike leader will contact you the day of for cancellation.
Parking lot for this preserve is small, and there is a second parking area across a set of train tracks off Old Mountain Road. There are also no facilities in the preserve.
Join us after the hike for lunch or a light bite at the Lebanon Pub.
