20s/30s Hike: 5 mile Skippack Creek Loop Trail at Evansburg State Park

Trip Leader(s): Jeff Cocci, Pat Grannan, Lisa Lombardo
Registration Type: Show & Go

Audience: 20’s & 30’sDescription: Join the 20s/30s for a relaxed hike around Evansburg state park, a wonderful little gem just outside of Collegeville!
Evansburg State park has a nice mix of meadows, woodlands, historic buildings, gravel bars of the Skippack creek that winds through it. The creek loop trail offers a nice sampling of some of the best parts of the park. We’ll meet in the parking area next to Pavilion A, near the restrooms at the trailhead before starting the Skippack Creek loop.
Heavy rain will cancel the hike. Registered participants will be notified by 7 am on the day of the hike if a cancellation is necessary.
The trail will take us down to and around both banks of the Skippack creek, we’ll even cross what is considered the oldest stone bridge in the US that still sees heavy use. There is a small change in elevation once we cross the bridge that rewards us with great views of the many beech, oak, and sycamore trees that grow along the banks of the creek below. The trail loop is 4.8 miles with an elevation gain of 242 ft.
Please dress appropriately for the weather on the day, bringing layers, a hat, sunscreen, bug repellent, etc. Parts of this trail will have us along meadows, whereas other parts take us into shaded woodlands. There is a brief section of trail that has us walking along the road, so please keep that in mind. Part of the trail close to the creek bank may be a little muddy, so wear sturdy shoes you do not mind potentially getting dirty. Pack snacks and plenty of water that you can enjoy along the trail.
If you feel like indulging your sweet tooth, after the hike we’ll stop at Scoop Happy Ice cream shop in Skippack which is known not only for its many different flavors of ice cream, but for its waffles and smoothies!
This is the second qualifying co-lead for Jeff Cocci to become an AMC leader, so come out and support him.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome on a 6’ or shorter leash as required in PA state parks.
