Another parking option is to take the redline or just park at the Universal redline station.
It is right across the street (Lankershim) from the entrance to Universal. Walk across the street to Universal property and you will see a loading area for the free shuttle to the top. It runs til 7pm I think, so you may have to walk back...but it is all downhill on the way back, so not a big issue for most.

Just checked. The theme park is open to 7pm and the tram runs to 9pm for those using that option.
City Walk is open later than the theme park area.
