September's book club selection is, "Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong", by James W. Loewen.

"Americans have lost touch with their history, and in Lies My Teacher Told Me  Professor James Loewen shows why. After surveying eighteen leading high school American history texts, he has concluded that not one does a decent job of making history interesting or memorable. Marred by an embarrassing combination of blind patriotism, mindless optimism, sheer misinformation, and outright lies, these books omit almost all the ambiguity, passion, conflict, and drama from our past."

Members can RSVP starting today 8-6-14.

    Hi Everett and Corrine:
I did not get the address either. In addition I did not get the message that I was off the wait list until close to 6pm. May I suggest that if the average cancellations are around 5 people then maybe you can select up to 30 people in advance. This will allow for late cancellations and everyone will have the address location well ahead of the meeting time. This sounds like a great group but it's difficult to get a spot and also difficult to quickly make plan changes once you are taken off the waiting list at the last minute . I also read the books anyway. (Great Selection)

Hi I also did not get the location and didn't get the message that I was off the wait list until 5:40 last night. My apologies for not attending, but I leave work at 4:30.

Thanks to the organizers for having this group. Unfortunately, I haven't had any luck getting information about the location for tonight. Changing my RSVP to "no." Maybe someone else can squeeze in.

The idea is to have read the book already and discuss it at the meeting. However, we're mostly giant slackers and it will impress us greatly if you've read even half the book by then. Those of us who actually finish the entire book are usually awarded seats of prominence, and the rest of the attendees are expected to fan them with palm leaves and feed them cheese bites and cornichons.

Thank you for the recent addition. As a new member do I buy this book ahead of time or the night of the meeting?

Location matters to me. I ride public transportation so- knowing in advance where the meetings will be is really helpful. I loved the book- read in two days!

If I'm 10th on the waitlist now, what would you say my chances are of making it into the event? If you guys don't think I'll make it I'll probably just keep reading the books I'm reading now

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
