About us
# Welcome to Calgary Nature and Social Adventures!
We're excited to welcome you to our community of explorers, outdoor enthusiasts, and social adventurers. Whether you're a lifelong Calgarian or new to the city, you'll find a friendly and welcoming group of people who enjoy discovering Calgary, the Rockies, and everything in between.
Our goal is simple: to create opportunities for people to explore, connect, and build lasting friendships through shared experiences.
## Getting Started
To help everyone feel comfortable and make it easier to connect at events, please ensure your profile includes:
- Your real first name and at least the initial of your last name.
- A clear, recognizable photo of yourself.
Having an accurate profile helps organizers and members identify one another at trailheads, parks, restaurants, and other event locations.
## What We Do
There is something for everyone throughout the year, including:
### Outdoor Adventures
- Hiking
- Camping
- Cycling
- Kayaking
- Rafting
- Snowshoeing
- Cross-country skiing
### Social Events
- Restaurant outings
- Potlucks
- Coffee meetups
- Photography walks
### Learning Opportunities
- Online webinars
- Personal growth sessions
- Educational presentations
## Membership Information
All new members receive a one-time 14-day trial period to explore the group and attend events.
To help cover the costs of maintaining our Meetup website, an annual membership fee of $12.00 CAD is required after your trial period. That's only $1 per month.
Meetup charges our group approximately $270.0 twice per year (February and August) to maintain the platform.
### Payment Options
You may pay your annual membership fee:
- By e-transfer to [dawnerath@gmail.com](mailto:dawnerath@gmail.com)
- By cash at any event before your membership expires
- By credit card through Meetup at the end of your trial period
Please Note: Meetup processes credit card payments in U.S. dollars, so members paying through Meetup will be charged approximately $12 USD. Unfortunately, this amount and currency cannot be adjusted by the organizer.
## Event Etiquette
Our community is built on respect, friendship, and face-to-face connections.
While this is not a dating group, both singles and couples are welcome. We ask members to avoid sending private messages to other members until they have met in person at an event.
If you can no longer attend an event, please:
- Change your RSVP to "Not Going," or
- Contact the host and ask them to update your RSVP.
Repeated "No Shows" may affect your standing within the group.
## Our Purpose
Calgary Nature and Social Adventures exists to help people:
- Attend activities they might not do alone
- Try new experiences
- Explore Calgary and the surrounding area
- Meet new people and make friends
- Connect with others who share similar interests
- Feel welcome if they are new to the city
## Important Waiver
By RSVPing to any event, you acknowledge and agree to the following:
You understand the risks associated with participating in group activities and accept full responsibility for your own safety, well-being, and physical limitations. You agree not to hold the organizer, hosts, event leaders, or Calgary Nature and Social Adventures responsible for any injury, loss, damage, or property damage that may occur as a result of your participation.
Participants who choose to carpool do so at their own discretion and risk.
Where an event permits a guest, that guest is not considered a member of the group and remains the sole responsibility of the member who invited them.
## Event Organizers Wanted
We're always looking for enthusiastic members to help grow our community.
If you enjoy meeting people, organizing activities, or leading adventures, consider becoming an Event Organizer. It's a great way to contribute, meet members, and help create memorable experiences for others.
We look forward to meeting you at an upcoming event and sharing some great adventures together!
