Japanese Cultural Party (SW venue)

Japanese Cultural Party (SW venue)

Details

(See venue location below in the event description...)

UPDATE Jan. 16/11: Please do NOT park on the side of the street DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM THE APARTMENT MAIN ENTRANCE. The people living in those duplexes don't like it when their street parking is taken by others. Please find another spot.

UPDATE Dec. 28/10: If you have severe food allergies or food restrictions please note that there is no guarantee of food safety for this event. ALL members AND guests attending take their own responsibility for their own personal restrictions and risk of cross-contamination. This responsibility CANNOT be taken by the attending organizer, DSN, Meetup, nor the building management company. If you attend, then you agree to this statement. (Sorry to be formal and direct about this, but I don't want anyone suing anybody!)

WHAT:
This is something a little different for DSN! I (Brian K) would like to share some of my Japanese traditions with you by hosting a fun cultural party with a cooking lesson and crafts activity. I will be teaching some of you to prepare: maki-sushi (vegetable roll, seafood roll), teriyaki chicken, and green tea ice cream....all for everyone to have and share.

Later in the evening, I will be giving an "origami" lesson--traditional Japanese paper folding.

For this event, I will be charging a per-person fee to cover the cost of: the room rental fee, all ingredients, beverages, tools and materials, cleaning fee (if applicable) and the regular DSN attendance loonie. Any extra money left over will be put into the DSN piggy bank.

If you wish to bring your own alcohol, you may do so. Water and juice provided.

If you wish to bring another side dish to share, it will be welcomed! (Optional)

WAITING LIST:
Members will have the option to sign up for a Waiting List when the attendee limit is reached. Each time a spot opens up, members on the Waiting List for this event will receive an email notification of a vacancy. You have to manually change the RSVP yourself--first RSVP come, first RSVP served. You will still be responsible for keeping your RSVP current AT ALL TIMES, INCLUDING IF YOU NEED TO DROP OUT LATER (i.e. change your RSVP from Yes to No to allow another to take your spot). You do not need to be on the List in order to RSVP to a vacancy, but being on the Waiting List will give you an advantage to know via automatic email about vacancies as they appear.

Note that with all DSN events, most drop-outs occur during the week prior to the event

WALK-INS:
Sorry, absolutely no walk-ins allowed. You MUST be on the Yes list to participate.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Optional: you can bring another dish to share with the group if you want to--please indicate in the RSVP comments what you are bringing.
  • This is expected to be a high-demand event--keep your RSVP up to date and do NOT take up a spot (or spots) if you do not intend to be there.
  • If you are a Yes and find out later that you and/or your guest cannot attend, change your RSVP to allow others (who really want to go) to be able to RSVP in your place and/or your guest's place.
  • This is being held in the Amenity Room of my own apartment building...please respect the venue. A damage deposit has been submitted, and any incurred cleaning charges (eg. carpet cleaning, bathroom cleaning) will be covered by member fees/DSN piggy bank. No mess=no cleaning charge.
  • No profit is being made off of this event. Any spare funds will be put into the DSN piggy bank.
  • Be responsible if you are drinking alcohol--have a safe way to get home
  • This location is bus accessible: Route 108 comes from downtown and stops right beside my apartment building on Richmond Road SW at about 43 St.

"Kampai!" (Cheers!)
