Discussion of "The Fallen Idol"
·OnlineOnlineDirected by Carol Reed, The Fallen Idol (1948) is an acclaimed British thriller starring Ralph Richardson, Michèle Morgan, and child actor Bobby Henrey. Set within the grand walls of a foreign embassy in London, the story unfolds through the innocent yet uncomprehending eyes of Phillipe, the young son of the French ambassador. Left largely in the care of the diplomatic staff while his father is away, Phillipe forms a deep bond of admiration and affection for Baines, the embassy’s head butler. To the lonely young boy, the charismatic Baines is a heroic figure, a constant confidant, and an idol who brightens the cavernous, quiet mansion.
