Ebooks and digital self-publishing turned the publishing industry upside down and have had a profound effect on how we read. Ebooks can be a relatively simple and cost effective way for authors to enter the world of self-publishing.

Still, this exciting new field has many people, including authors, unsure what it is all about or how to approach it. Join us for an informative primer on ebooks. We will discuss how ebooks compare to print books, basic formats and things to know, opportunities and challenges, and current issues and trends.

Speaker

Erika Nygaard is a Freelance Graphic Designer for ebook and print publications. She works with authors and publishers to develop their products and strategize and troubleshoot ebook development.

After receiving a BA in English Literature from Northwestern University in 1995, Erika began her career in account management working for marketing agencies. Further schooling put her on the path to print production and design in the publishing industry. Now self-employed, she consults with publishers, authors, and other companies who need product development for print and digital publications.

Venue

The library is located at the intersection of Fullerton and Racine. It’s accessible by CTA Bus #74 on Fullerton and is 3 blocks west of the CTA Red Line. Parking is available on the street and in the lot east of the building on Fullerton.
