Ebooks for Authors (and Everyone Else, Too)

Ebooks and digital self-publishing turned the publishing industry upside down and have had a profound effect on how we read. Ebooks can be a relatively simple and cost effective way for authors to enter the world of self-publishing.

Still, this exciting new field has many people, including authors, unsure what it is all about or how to approach it. Join us for an informative primer on ebooks. We will discuss how ebooks compare to print books, basic formats and things to know, opportunities and challenges, and current issues and trends.

Bring your questions for Q&A at the end.

Speaker

Erika Nygaard is a Freelance Graphic Designer for ebook and print publications. She works with authors and publishers to develop their products and strategize and troubleshoot ebook development.

After receiving a BA in English Literature from Northwestern University in 1995, Erika began her career in account management working for marketing agencies. Further schooling put her on the path to print production and design in the publishing industry. Now self-employed, she consults with publishers, authors, and other companies who need product development for print and digital publications.

We had a great turnout at our May 2 meeting on Ebooks For Authors. Sending out a big thank you to presenter Erika Nygaard and to everyone who joined us that night, especially those who asked and helped answer such great questions. We have a wealth of self-publishing knowledge in our group. PDF versions of the May 2 handout and Erika's presentation are available for download -- hover over the "More" tab on the main navigation menu of this site, then click on "Files." See you soon!
