ChicagoRuby: Elmhurst Coding Dojo

This location is shown only to members

Coding Dojo: Part Deux – Practice Harder! Deliberate practice over a long period of time is at the heart of attaining expertise. At this, our second coding dojo, we’ll be using RSpec, Cucumber and pair programming in concert to work through the Bowling Kata. Like last time, any skill level is welcome, though this time we plan to jump right into coding with very minimal setup.

For a head start, look for sites that discuss coding dojos and the Bowling Kata.

Coding Dojo was a great alternative to speaking presentations. Allowed everyone the opportunity to get up and code!

As usual, learned some very helpful and current techniques for coding; Cucumber, RSpec and BDD.

First, thank you for providing this opportunity today. Everything was new for me about Rspec, Cucumber. I did a little bit TDD in a small Java project using Junit. However, I've never done from customer's aspect like using Cucumber. I believe cucumber is a very powerful tool making sure to meet customer's requirement. Also, we can show the test result to the customers, right? What I found out today is that coming up with the test code is much more difficult than coding actual code. I hesitated to code today because I'm new in ruby and Chicago. Hope I would be confident next time. Thank you again. Kenji
