ChicagoRuby Hack Night -JRuby
Details
Come on out and hack!
The JRuby book (https://www.pragprog.com/titles/jruby/using-jruby) is coming out in January, so let's try some JRuby and see what we can do with it.
Charlie Nutter notes that JRuby is not just useful for getting Ruby into JVM shops, but also gives Rubyists access to the many useful Java libraries and utilities and offers more deployment options for Ruby code. He even finds jirb the best way to explore new Java libraries.
All levels of Ruby expertise are welcome.
Just bring yourself and a laptop. We sometimes have problems with the wireless in the Enova meeting room, so please install JRuby 1.5.6 before the meetup if you can.
Windows users will be pleased to know there's an exe for easy installation on the JRuby download page (https://jruby.org/download).
Linux and OSX users with rvm just need to do:
rvm install jruby
(If you don't see jruby version 1.5.6 in 'rvm list known' then you may have an old version of rvm. Update it with 'rvm update' )
See you there!
