ChicagoRuby: Downtown - Spree

About the presentation - Spree: If you develop web applications long enough, you will probably come across the need to implement an e-commerce site. What starts out as a simple money for a product transaction quickly turns into the need to process returns, apply various regional taxes, differentiate shipping costs, track inventory and much more. Fortunately, the open source Ruby community has given you a starting point with Spree. Kyle Crum will walk through how Spree works as well as present some of the downsides and pitfalls associated with it.

About the presenter: Kyle Crum is a freelance Ruby/Rails/iOS developer who remembers starting an app when Rails hit 1.0. He's worked for various Chicago outfits, and more recently, with people on either coast. He recently became acquainted with Spree during a furious 3-week re-write from a custom e-commerce solution to a solution built on top of Spree. He likes beer.

After most downtown meetings we head over to Elephant & Castle (185 N. Wabash) for refreshments & fellowship. Join us for a few minutes if you have time.

Please use your real name when you RSVP for downtown ChicagoRuby meetings. Reason: We are required to give a list of all attendees to the security desk prior to the meeting. If the name on your ID doesn't the match the name on the RSVP list, then Aon security will not let you in the building. Sorry for the inconvenience, but those are the rules of the Aon Building.

WindyCityRails happens September 12-13, 2013. Get answers. Gain access. Make connections. Register by June 5, 2013 to save $200. Details: http://windycityrails.org.

I was unable to leave the IRCE Conference for this meetup - are there any online links to any meeting notes?

I sure do wish this meeting was a day earlier, it conflicts with the IRCE conference at McCormick. I was expecting to see the Spree folks at this big eCommerce event and it seems they don't have a booth. The 4th is the Magento Party!
Anyway we are developing a Spree project and I very much want to attend this if I can break away. If not please contact me with the notes from the discussion and how to reach the presenters!

My name is Mike, and I work for Samsung Developers.

We want to host an event in Chicago in the next 8 weeks, and are looking for ambassadors that could use the resources from Samsung, to organize and promote an event to mobile developers. This is an event for your own networking and partnership opportunities/collaborations. You get to set the speakers and all aspects of the event.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
