Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein

This month's selection is Robert Heinlein's classic bug-human war novel, "Starship Troopers," which I understand is much different than the movie. The novel has been criticized for its social and political themes, including allegations of advocating fascism or militarism.  The movie has been criticized for all kinds of things.

Plot summary (from Wikipedia):  Published in 1959, "Starship Troopers," winner of the Hugo Award, is the story of a young soldier from the Philippines named Juan "Johnnie" Rico who joins the Mobile Infantry, a futuristic military service branch equipped with powered armor. Rico's military career progresses from recruit to non-commissioned officer, and finally to officer, against the backdrop of an interstellar war between mankind and an arachnoid species known as "the Bugs." Rico and the other characters discuss moral and philosophical aspects of suffrage, civic virtue, juvenile delinquency, capital punishment, war, and using RAID during combat.

NEW LOCATION:  I've moved the group to Mad River Grille & Pub, a place that serves food and drink.  We've been going out for drinks after group; this will combine both group and drinks so we aren't out as late.  Ask for the table where the sci-fi book group is meeting.  The new location is near the Wellington Brown Line stop.  Street parking is do-able, but may be a bit difficult.

Future book selection ideas are welcome. Criteria for books: has a science fiction theme, is 20+ years old, and under 500 pages (for us busy, slower readers).

Please be respectful of the group and your humble organizer by keeping RSVPs up-to-date.  No-shows are no fun, so please don't be one, if you can help it.  Two no-shows will have you removed from the group.

Sorry Mindy, I cannot attend. Working until 8pm that night. Please leave space for Cecilia as she was my +1 and she might still go. Thanks.
