Lots of big, exciting Columbus Movie Group events & news in this update! Showtimes for our $5 Super Tuesday event to see Tammy / Jersey Boys has been confirmed! Our July calendar has been set! And our Columbus Movie Group 5th Anniversary Party is on the calendar! Complete details for all of our upcoming events can be found below:

TONIGHT: $5 SUPER TUESDAY! JERSEY BOYS / TAMMY at Marcus Crosswoods on Tuesday, July 8th!

• MOVIES: If you plan to see JERSEY BOYS, purchase your ticket for the 6:30pm showing and meet Terry inside the main lobby between 5:50 and 6:10pm. If you plan to see TAMMY purchase your ticket for the 7:30pm showing and meet Dan inside the main lobby between 6:50 and 7:10pm.
• EARLY ARRIVAL / ADVANCE TICKET PURCHASE RECOMMENDED: We’ve got an early showtime (especially for those seeing Jersey Boys), a little construction, a big group of CMG friends and expected sellout crowds – so advance ticket purchase and/or early arrival is recommended! Also, if you can come in the back way (using Sancus Blvd), that may help you avoid the construction.
• TICKETS: Tickets are just $5 each! Not bad for a couple of first-run movies! You may purchase your ticket at the window (be early) or on-line via the Marcus website at: http://marcustheatres.com/Theatre/TheatreDetail/158/?showdates=7%2F8%2F2014&eventSort=2 .
• AFTER THE SHOWS: The best part of the night! Both movies will end between 9:00 and 9:15. When your movie is over, head just down the plaza to Wurst & Bier German Restaurant where both the Jersey Boys & Tammy groups will get together for conversation, food and drinks! We'll have several big tables reserved for the group!
• BONUS: Jimm (CMG member and Central Ohio Movies) will provide three “Official Tammy BBQ Sets” (for the Tammy Group) and three sets of movie passes to see Tammy (to the Jersey Boys group) as door prizes at our get together after the shows!

THIRD TUESDAY $1+ MOVIE at Carriage Place Cinema on Tuesday, July 15th!

• The July edition of our monthly movie on the cheap returns on Tuesday, July 15th!
• Each month features a fun film for a low price! Cost is just $1.25 per person! After the show, be sure to join us for conversation, food and drinks!

JUST ANNOUNCED: DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES at Cinemark Gahanna on Friday, July 25th!

• Join us as we get together to see DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, the follow-up to the surprisingly good 2011 Rise of the Planet of the Apes!
• DESCRIPTION: Caesar leads a growing nation of genetically evolved apes who are threatened by a band of human survivors of a devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species. Starring Keri Russell, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman and Andy Serkis as Caesar.
• PLAN: We’ll plan to see a 7pm(ish) showing of DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES on Friday, July 25th at Cinemark Stoneridge in Gahanna. Afterwards, be sure to join us for conversation, food and drinks at Max & Erma’s, located just across the parking lot.

SPECIAL EVENT: CMG 5TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY: GET ON UP & GRASS SKIRT TIKI ROOM on Sunday, August 10th!

• For the Columbus Movie Group’s 5th Anniversary Party, we’re going to bring the funk then bring the fun! We’ll start with the highly anticipated, awards-bound James Brown biopic GET ON UP followed by a delicious, tropical dinner at a restaurant perfect for a great big anniversary party, THE GRASS SKIRT TIKI ROOM!
• MOVIE: GET ON UP stars Chadwick Boseman (42) in the incredible, true story of the Godfather of Soul, James Brown! By taking a look inside the music, the moves and the moods of James Brown, Get On Up takes us on a journey from James Brown’s impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. Directed by Tate Taylor (The Help) and starring Chadwick Beseman, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Jill Scott and Dan Aykroyd!
• DINNER: We’re in for a treat as we make our first-ever visit to THE GRASS SKIRT TIKI ROOM! Owned and operated by the same folks that run the fantastic Betty’s, Dirty Franks, and The Jury Room, the Grass Skirt Tiki Room is an oasis in the city! Inside this non-descript little building lies one of the most fun and festive little restaurants you’ll find anywhere, filled with tiki heads, a colorful faux tropical garden, a lava wall, and some delicious Hawaiian and Polynesian cuisine! We’ll have a special, all-inclusive prix fixe menu with several entrée choices (including vegetarian and gluten-free options)!

SUMMER READING: GONE GIRL & THE GIVER!

• A couple of movies based on best-selling books are on our radar for later this summer. If you like to read the before you see the movie, check out these great titles. Reviews for both books are good and buzz is high for the upcoming films!
• GONE GIRL by Gillian Flynn is a New York Times best-seller described as “an ingenious” and “irresistible summer thriller!” This dark and sinister story about a marriage gone terribly, terribly wrong spent 8 weeks atop the NY Times Best Seller list. The film version (directed by David Fincher ) is due out in October and stars Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick Harris.
• THE GIVER is classic youth fiction from Lois Lowry. The book was the winner of the 1994 Newbery Medal and centers on a 12-year-old boy's gradual disillusionment with an outwardly utopian futuristic society. The film adaptation, due out in August, will star Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep and Brenton Thwaites.

FREE SCREENING: AND SO IT GOES on Monday, July 14th at AMC Lennox

• MOVIE INFO: In this uplifting drama-romance-comedy, a self-centered realtor enlists his neighbor to help when an estranged son drops off a granddaughter he never knew existed at his home. Directed by Rob Reiner and starring Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton
