During our meetup on Campaign Finance Reform, members lamented that their Georgia votes would not be pursued by the campaigns because Georgia is a forgone Red State (or maybe Pink, nowadays).
Should we scrap the electoral college system? Should we change the redistricting laws?
We now have Bill Bozarth, Former Executive Director of Common Cause Georgia, signed up to talk to us about the electoral college, what is it, how did it come about, why is it important, how does it work, EC vs. the popular vote, redistricting, and more. He'll then join us for our usual discussion.

Common Cause Georgia is a non-profit, non-partisan citizens' lobby organization. We believe that by banding together, citizens can make a difference. We throw a spotlight on issues that affect all Georgians. We work to strengthen public participation and to ensure that the political process serves the public interest, rather than the special interests.
Our purpose is clear: make public officials and public institutions accountable and responsive to citizens. Common Cause Georgia has more than 3,000 members and supporters across the state.

The date and place are a little tentative at this point, as football season may force us to move around. Taco Mac seems to give preference to their football fans over our book club... amazing!
There's a $1 charge to help cover the yearly meetup costs, which are $144 / year. This is optional, but appreciated!
We try to start around 7:30, but if you'd like to eat food, it helps if you arrive before 7:30 so the wait staff aren't as much in the way.
About arriving late: no worries! It's nice if we can start on time, but we have people show up an hour late all the time.
Book exchange: bring any books you want to get rid of, and pick up something new! (thanks for the idea, Erin!). There's also a bulletin board thread for book suggestions.
Our group is more focused on learning and hearing different view points than winning a debate. We try to keep the discussion respectful and encourage devil's advocates.
