Slidify & rCharts - DVDC & SPDC Joint Event

  • Aug 19, 2013 · 6:30 PM

We are very pleased to have our first joint Statistical Programming DC & Data Visualization DC event. Dr. Ramnath Vaidyanathan is the primary developer of two influential R packages that help with presenting and displaying our analyses:

• Slidify, which allows the creation of HTML5-based presentations using Markdown and R

• rCharts, which allows the creation of dynamic graphical content using a variety of Javascript graphing libraries like d3.js, Highcharts, Leaflet, Rickshaw and others, directly from R using the familiar R syntax conventions

Dr. Vaidyanathan has also developed rNotebook, an enhanced version of the KnitR Notebook, which allows you to see your Rmarkdown document and the formatted HTML instantaneously side-by-side.

Interactive Event: As many may have noticed over the months, DVDC has strived to become more interactive.  So far we've introduced:

• Interactive Demos (DCUX.org/iDVDC)

• Google+ Hangout Presentations

• This month we're featuring interactive displays with Leap Motion controllers!

Feedback: DCUX.org/DVDC

• 7:00pm - Unveiling the DVDC Logo & Introductions

• 7:15pm - PART 1: Overview of Slidify & rCharts

Good combination event, though it would have been nice to add some stats into the presentation

Just a thought: Data visualization my be a great help in reconstructing the original mortgage loans that went into the wall street securities that caused the financial meltdown. A good article on the subject that contains hints as to data sources is:
