What Causes MySQL Downtime, and How to Prevent it

Details

We've got a great presentation and conversations lined up for November. Not to mention, great beer and free pizza. Depending on time, we may include an open discussion about monitoring:

What do you monitor? What tools do you use? How do you expose your monitors? How do you alert / what do you alert on?

Agenda:

6:30 - 7:00 Meet, greet, and eat 7:00 - 7:15 Welcome and Introductions 7:15 - 8:30 Presentation & Discussion What Causes MySQL Downtime, and How to Prevent it - Baron Schwartz (https://www.meetup.com/DevOpsDC/members/12351617/) (@xaprb (https://twitter.com/#%21/xaprb))- Learn how to get a real grip on proactivity and truly prevent downtime in databases! This talk details the two dimensions of high availability (MTTR and MTBF) and explains why people often focus on reactively to reduce MTTR, mostly via technical measures. I present research into 154 downtime-causing incidents, detailing the areas affected, causes, and preventions. The examples are all MySQL-related, but the principles are largely technology-independent. 8:30 - 9:00 General networking, etc. Preparing for the Meeting:
