• DevOps Design Patterns - Laura Barton (@laurabartondev (https://twitter.com/laurabartondev)) - Is it enough to automatically build infrastructure in code if the code that is created looks like a series of linear instructions placed inside a bash script? Probably not. This style of coding is probably born out the times when infrastructure was built by executing a serious of commands from an installation document. With better tools and languages available and the growing need to implement deployable, testable, maintainable, and reusable code, we should turn to existing object-oriented design patterns like we do for our application development? In this talk I would like to describe a couple of design patterns and talk to how we could introduce similar patterns in DevOps code. I will demonstrate for each of the design pattern an example for how it can be incorporated to our way of thinking in DevOps. We don’t all need to invent the next big DSL library (though wouldn’t that be nice), in fact there are very simple changes and steps each DevOps developer can do to move in this direction.
