Platform: Making Sense of Spirituality with Wes Fornes

“Making Sense of Spirituality”
Is it possible for secular ethical folks to embrace spirituality? Is there ‘truth’ in spiritual experiences - or in so-called mumbo jumbo - that can enlighten us secular ethical folks? Is there a chance that being rational is delusional? These are some of the key questions that I will be addressing in January’s Sunday Platform.
As an Atheist chaplain who has both feet firmly planted in both camps, the spiritual and the rational, I am constantly engaged in a world of angels, demons, heavens and hells. Especially as a hospice chaplain, I work with people with terminal illnesses trying to make sense out of life and wrestling with, well … their existence as a human being. So in the next Sunday Platform, I will focus on bridging the gap between spiritual people and secular people. My goal for this presentation is to, as an Ethical Culture Society, challenge us to increase our understanding and compassion for people who share vastly different world views.
