About us
We are a friendly group focused on ethical living, community connection, and bringing out the best in people. We explore together what it means to live ethically as individuals, in relationships, and in the larger world. Ethical Culture was founded in 1876 as an alternative to traditional religion. The focus is on human lives and relationships, rather than theology and ritual. Our core belief is in the inherent worth and dignity of each individual. Moved by what we see in the surrounding community, we collaborate to deliver meals and supplies to the Grace Solutions shelter for unhoused individuals in San Jose. We are a listening, caring, mutually supportive, and fun-loving fellowship. Learn more at our website, and pick an event here on our Meetup page to give us a try. Welcome!

Spotlight: Brian Barth on Unhoused Communities in Silicon Valley
Neutra House, 181 Hillview Ave, Los Altos, CA, USJoin us for an hour with author Brian Barth, whose new book, Front Street - Resistance and Rebirth in the Tent Cities of Techlandia, is an immersive journey deep into Silicon Valley’s homeless encampments, challenging everything we thought we knew about our unhoused neighbors. Blending memoir, investigative reporting, history, and cultural criticism to paint a portrait of a community searching for dignity and connection in the midst of a national crisis, Front Street is a conversation-changing story about the struggle for housing.
Brian Barth is an award-winning independent journalist with bylines in the New Yorker, National Geographic, Washington Post, The New Republic and Mother Jones, among other publications.
In his session with us, Brian will be joined by at least one formerly unhoused individual he befriended during his encounters in the community. We will have to opportunity to hear their stories and ask questions.
This gathering is part of our monthly 'Spotlight' series, where invited speakers broaden our ethical outlook on the world. We listen, learn, and discuss, mixing in a little live music, light refreshment, and community sharing. The program runs from 11 am to 12:30 pm, and all are welcome to stay for lunch together on the patio from 12:45 to 1:45. Bring something to share if you like.
