What we’re about
This humanist community meets weekly, and also has special events and other activities throughout the year. We welcome newcomers or visitors of all ages and backgrounds to Meetup with us for any or all of these things, as we work together to make a more just, sustainable and humane society – and enjoy each other’s company.
There are several ways you can participate:
· Sunday mornings at 11 a.m. we gather for “Platform,” with a different featured speaker and topic each week, on a wide variety of topics. Our overall theme is how best to live ethical and moral lives, and that doing so does not require belief in a god
· Children’s classes meet each Sunday at the same time as the adults. The Ethical Education program is designed for kids in grades K through 8, and there is also childcare for younger children.
· Charitable and social justice projects (see calendar).
· First Friday Film series features documentaries on a variety of subjects.
· Social gatherings including potlucks, game nights, and secular holiday festivals (see calendar).

See all- Can AI Be Tamed? with Sebastian BenthallWestchester Community for Ethical Culture, White Plains, NY
As AI makes its way into our lives, we see that along with the great potential, there are significant risks, including deepfakes and disinformation, massive job losses, security threats, loss of human interaction, and an uncontrollable self-aware AI. However, laws and regulations have been slow to address these outcomes. Can a legal response effectively lower the risks of AI while allowing us to reap its benefits? NYU senior research fellow Sebastian Benthall explores how AI is regulated in Europe and the United States and whether these safeguards will be enough. He also addresses what action people can take to reduce risk in a world with more AI.
Dr. Sebastian Benthall is a Senior Research Fellow at the Information Law Institute at the New York University School of Law and a Research Scientist at the International Computer Science Institute. His work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and the Microsoft Corporation. He is also a member of the Westchester Community for Ethical Culture.Sunday, May 19

bit.ly/tame_ai - Adult Snack Packs for Community Central ParticipantsWestchester Community for Ethical Culture, White Plains, NY
On June 2nd, Jessica Timms from Lifting Up Westchester joins us to share her insights.
LUW provides life-changing support to people who have lost their housing or are struggling to meet other basic needs. Our vision is a community where everyone has a stable place to call home. We believe that housing is the foundation on which a person’s well-being and advancement is built. With secure housing, we have the ability to focus on improving our health, education, and employment. Our team helps people find a home, build on that foundation, and achieve greater self-sufficiency. We provide comprehensive support to people facing homelessness, hunger, and extreme poverty including:
- Emergency Shelter: beds, meals, and other necessities for single men and women with tailored on-site support
- Community Central: hot meals, programs and activities, and guidance accessing other community resources
- Job Central: assistance in preparing for, finding, and maintaining employment
- Housing: access to safe, affordable housing with ongoing support to ensure sustainability
- Youth Programs: academic tutoring, enrichment, and mentoring for students from kindergarten through college
When we uplift the most vulnerable in our community, we all rise!
