About Fellowship of Reason

What are FOR Meetups all about?

Fun! OK, they're also about providing a social outlet or community for non-theists: those who do not subscribe to a faith-based belief system, or belong to a faith-based community. We have settled on the term "non-theist" as a general term that might include atheists, freethinkers, humanists, agnostics, brights, and possibly other 'labels.' FOR regards reason (vs faith, mysticism, or superstition) as the best guide to knowing the world and ourselves (including our emotional needs). Other values found in the FOR community include: the importance of freedom; individual rights and responsibility; benevolence, fairness, and respect toward one's fellow humans; pursuit of individual happiness and well-being (flourishing in this life); and fellowship, of course!

Following are examples of the various FOR Meetup activities. Whether you're a sofa-loving bookworm, arts patron, or exercise/outdoor enthusiast, there's something for you- and somebody to do it with!

1st Sunday: FORum: our monthly program in which speakers present on various topics, including ethics, ideas, historical events and persons, etc.; followed by discussion and social luncheon

all other Sundays: FOR Runners: a morning run or walk at Piedmont Park, followed by breakfast at the Flying Biscuit (some folks just show up for the breakfast part)

1st and 3rd Tuesdays: Philosophy Club: potluck supper, followed by taped lectures on a variety of philosophical topics, discussion

2nd Tuesday: Fiction Book Club: potluck supper, followed by a discussion of the month's selection; for titles follow this link: http://astore.amazon....

2nd Saturday: Non-Fiction Book Club: potluck brunch, followed by a discussion of the month's selection; for titles follow this link: http://astore.amazon....
