Friday Night Freethought:

Let's take this one on the town, folks, in honor of Corina coming to hang out with us.

It might rain a little but hopefully not enough to slow us down - Just in case, let's start the night at Bigfoot again (Sorry Dakota, but don't worry the night progresses unpredictably). Once we have given folks time to find us we can go nomadic. I like uptown but maybe Charlies or the Wine Loft this time?

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Now that this is a public outing (as opposed to at your house), will we be discussing things? I ask because some subjects may not be appropriate for public discussion.

I don't mind taboo topics, I just hope it doesn't degenerate into a rude-fest or bashing-fest in public. The public perception of secular people is already negative so I am really cautious about furthering that perception, know what I mean? That's why I ask.

As a Humanist, I strive to avoid dehumanizing, "bashing" language or ad hominem attacks, and I think the group overall is supportive of that ideal--but what people consider to be "rude" tends to be a conditioned sensibility related to conventions of culture and one's own personal background. It is so highly subjective that I would hesitate to assure you that you won't find some of the discussions "rude" according to your own tastes/mores.

We have a sitter tonight and were planning to go out just us until I saw that you were having a monthly potluck tonight. Since we haven't gone to an event yet (our crazy schedules and lack of planning), we thought we might swing by. If we do, anything super simple and easy we can bring for food (as in something we can just pick up along the way?)

Anything you want to bring is great! It's a potluck, people bring whatever they bring. If you are worried about dietary issues we have some vegans (including me) and the occasional gluten-free's. Just come and have fun - we are excited to meet you!
