Freeside Laser: Basic Usage and Safety

Learn how to use Freeside's new Laser Engraver/Cutter ( You'll learn how to use the software toolchains to cut or engrave vector and bitmap artwork into a variety of material. We'll cover machine setup, laser safety and more. The class will be approximately 3 hours of lecture and demonstrations.

After the class each student will then be eligible to schedule a one-on-one session with the instructor or another approved laser user to supervise and assist them with their first laser project, and receive sign-off to use the laser.

Not yet a member of Freeside? You can still take this class to learn the basics of CNC machine operation, all about how our laser works, and you may have an opportunity to operate the laser when participating in a public project in the future.

Materials: Class demonstration materials included.

Instructor: Brian Cribbs

$40/student, $32 for Freeside members*

* Members of Freeside Atlanta only, not members of this Meetup group.  Adjust your payment on the honor system at checkout!

If you'd like to be ahead of the game you can do the following:
Install the trial of CamBam and familiarize yourself with its workings.

Find and download a few DXF files you think are cool.

Find and download a few Bitmap/JPG images that would be cool to burn into something.
