Access Control and Hackerspace Automation

Details
Full-time hacker and systems guru Alan Fay will be leading this project to expand the control of the RFID door entry system to other areas of the space. In this project, we'll be resurrecting the "theme song" function (where a member's theme song will play when they badge in) and the twitterbot (which will post on twitter when people enter the space).
We'll also expand to controlling access to potentially dangerous equipment like the CNC mills and other items using RFID and key distribution systems. In the first few meetings, we'll brainstorm solutions and talk about what we want the system to do. Then we'll build it using our combination of hardware, software, and security skills. Come in to help, or if you'd just like to learn how these systems are designed.

Email pr@freesideatlanta.org for more details or if you have a question.
Membership is not required to attend these meetings or to take our classes. However, all guests will be required to sign liability waivers, which is standard practice for makerspaces.
Freeside membership does get you 24hr access to the space with your RFID card, access to our Member message board, invitations to member meetings, a vote on how the space is used, and more!
Many of our members use the message board to find out about projects and events, so there will likely be more people than the Meetup RSVP count indicates.
