Rockwood Memorial walk for Peter Cirilli

Details
Please join us for this special walk in memory of Peter Cirilli who passed away recently. Peter’s passion was hiking. He was a quiet man, but his presence was felt on each of the 37 hikes he attended with this group. He was kind, considerate, and was always there to help as we enjoyed the trails together. His parting has been a sad loss for all of us, and he will be fondly remembered by his hiking friends. Let us reflect on the good times we had with Peter as we explore this beautiful park.
Our walk will include a section of the Old Croton Aquaduct and a loop around Rockwood hall. It will be 2-3 miles long and be taken at a relaxed pace. The terrain is easy with a couple of small hills. The park has some wonderful views of the river and the surrounding hills, and foundations of the hall still remain. All are welcome to attend.
This event will be followed by the creation of a remembrance album for Peter’s family, please see separate event listing (https://www.meetup.com/Hike-Putnam-and-Beyond/calendar/12724843/) if you wish to attend
Meeting location:
After turning into River road from Route 9, enter parking on left (indicated as Clearview school parking)
Donations:
We will be collecting donations in Peter’s name and will give them to the NYNJTC who maintain a lot of the trails in the area that have been enjoyed by Peter and our hiking group.

HIKING
Hiking is my religion.
The trail is my pew.
I hike a few times per month.
To recharge my batteries anew.
Hiking is part of evolution.
The trail is the natural way.
I hike a few times per month.
To live a healthier day.
Hiking is part of my life.
The trails are there to explore.
I hike a few times per month.
To stretch my imagination more.
Hiking is better with a group.
Where the trail is loud with chatter.
I hike a few times per month,
to meet with friends that matter.
Hiking to the mountain top.
The height and terrain defines the test.
I challenge the old body to perform.
To climb to the crest.
Hiking seeks a oneness.
The trail is the way to find.
I hike a few times per month.
To unify the body, the spirit and the mind.
A beautiful poem that I am sure we can all relate to written by our member Joe Stretanski"
