Echo Mountain is above the city of Altadena.
The trail will be about 20 miles 'n change as the crow flies.
Allow for about 8-10 hours to complete.
Due to the length; this trail is not for beginners.
There may be sudden & frequent stops for print making...
Wear good trail shoes or boots... bring a hat.
Make sure to have plenty of water, at least 4 quarts, more if you like, and something to chew on.
Our first short break will be at Echo Mountain; about 2 ½ miles in.
(If you decide to make use of the echo phone: keep in mind, laughing may soon follow...)
From there we will take the Merrill trail to Inspiration Point & Muir Peak: about 3 ½ miles.
We will then go to San Gabriel peak in about 4 miles.
The final 9 ½ miles will be on the road (which has plenty of rocks) & Echo trail, both are quite pleasant.
DIRECTIONS:
From hwy 210:
Exit Lake Ave. in Altadena and follow it north towards the mountains for about 3 miles to the end.
The street turns to the west or left and becomes Loma Alta.
Find parking along the street...
We will meet at the corner of Lake and Loma Alta, by the gate, at 8:00am.
There are no facilities at the trail head; so adjustments should be made prior to arrival.
