The Annual Mt. Baden-Powell New Moon Light Backpack

Details

Distance: ~8-Miles Point to Point

Gain: ~2,000'

Pace: Moderate

About This Trip: This is a light backpacking trip to Mt. Baden-Powell, light meaning no tents and just enough of this and that to be safe.

We will meethttp://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/e/1/2/0/event_74037632.jpeg at Vincent Gulch and car shuttle to Dawson Saddle, where the hike will start. The plan is to be on Mt. Throop just before sunset, so you might say ooh-ahh and take a few pictures. Then, it is on to Mt. Burnham, before we reach the summit it will be pitch dark and you will be looking at more stars than you have seen in years in the Los Angeles Basin and, of course, the lights of the Southland and High Desert.

Then, it is over the bump and up B-P for the night.

Sunday morning it is down the yak trail, retrieve the car at Dawson Saddle then on to the Grizzly Cafe in Wrightwood for breakfast.

Plan for a bit of woosh overnight.

This is a good trip for a backpacking noob, if they have a warm sleeping bag.

Required: 3-season backpacking gear including a warm sleeping bag, mattress, ground cover, extra warmies, a good headlight, stove for coffee and/or coco, about 3L water and food for snacking and a light breakfast.

Semi-Required: Condensed adult beverage of your choice

Rain Cancels!!! Not Wind

Directions: From I-15 N, exit CA-18 and turn left at the top of the ramp. Continue to CA-2 (Angeles Crest Hwy.) and make a left. Continue through Wrightwood to Dawson Saddle, which is about 5.5 miles west of Vincent Gulch Parking Lot.

Whom Do I Sue: This is not an official organization chartered to make certain any level of safety greater when you venture into the Wilderness by your lonesome, if you want something like that seek out the Sierra Club with their rules, regulations and signed waivers of liability. Do not expect organizer(s) to check the qualifications of anyone you are hiking or climbing with. Any questions asked of you when you sign up is to ensure the organizer(s) safety, nothing more. If you have doubts about going on this particular meetup, you should find someone you trust, go alone or choose not to participate.
