Big Horn Peak is above the cities of Upland and Claremont.
This trail is NOT for beginners.
The length of the trail is about 13 miles 'round trip. Allow for about 6-8 hours to complete.
There may be sudden & frequent stops for print making...
Bring a camera, there is a lot to see !!!
Make sure to bring plenty of water, at least 3 quarts, more if you like, and something to chew on.
Wear good trail shoes or boots. Also, bring a hat; to wear, not to eat.
The eating one's own hat, or anyone else's for that matter, is considered bad form.
On the way up, we will go by way of the Chapman Trail.
Our first short break will be at Ice House Saddle.
From there, we will continue the saddle, just below the Cucamonga switch backs, then climb a very steep Big Horn.
On a clear day, from the peak, we will have views of the valley and coastal islands.
DIRECTIONS:
From hwy 210 east or west: exit on Mountain Ave. and turn north towards the mountains. Follow Mountain all the way to 'the mountains'.
When you reach the top of Mountain Ave., there is a stop sign. Watch for oncoming traffic.
Turn right on Mt. Baldy road and follow it for about 8 miles.
Drive through Mt. Baldy Village.
About a mile passed the village you will come to Ice House Canyon, there is a sign. It is just before a sharp left turn that is the beginning of the hair pin switch-backs. Drive straight and park in the lot.
We will meet at the trail head at the top of the car park at 8:15 am & start at 8:30 on the snout. (If I get out of work late, then we will meet a bit later.)
PARKING:
A wilderness day or annual pass is required to park in the lot.
Do NOT bring your dogs, cats, canaries, drama, +1’s or other pets.
CLUB POLICY:
No +1's or extra guests.
If you want to bring a friend, local or long distance, just have them join the club.
