This isn't the A-frame boat ride at Knott's Berry Farm or the dragon swing at miniature golf: It's worse...

We will be going to The Sunset road by way of a ridgeline; then back down & up the ridge line in front of it in about 6 miles 'round trip, as the crow flies

Allow for about 3 hours or so...

This is NOT a trail for beginners.

Also, this is not a trail to turn your nose up at.

You will find this to be work. We will be taking the not too subtle direct approach straight up to the front porch.

This is a good short trail to practice on if you want to move up to the big time and/or keep your hand in it & don't always have a lot of time...

The Wrath of Khan's Breath

There is just over a 1/2 mile of steep up hill which will take you up 1,000 feet 'n change...

Those who know Skyline or Iron Mountain, San Gabriel; will know the trial by ordeal.

Any who want to join in the chorus of "The Barber of Seville" while climbing the steep slope, here are some lines to study:

Figaro... Figaro... Figaro... Figaro... Figaro...

Figaro... Figaro... Figaro... Figaro... Figaro!!!

Ahime, ahime che furia!

Ahime, che folla!

Uno alla volta,

Per carita! per carita! per carita!

Uno alla volta, uno alla volta,

Uno alla volta, per carita!

Figaro! Son qua.

Ehi, Figaro! Son qua.

Figaro qua, Figaro la, Figaro qua, Figaro la,

Figaro su, Figaro giu, Figaro su, Figaro giu...

No, I will not be singing.

If I have to sing for my supper: I'll starve.

Those of you who do not wish to sing; practicing heavy breathing for use over the phone later is acceptable.

There is a lot to see and may be sudden & frequent stops for print making, so be sure to bring a camera.

Chew toys:

Be sure to bring a hat, to wear, not to eat.

The eating of one's own hat; or anyone else's for that matter, is considered bad form.

Bring at least a 1/2 gallon of water, more if you like & something to chew on... (do not chew on your nails {see eating one's own hat description above}...).

Peanut Butter Cups or See's Chocolate See Gars are more than acceptable to bring and chew on !!!

GETTING THERE:

From hwy 210 east or west: exit on Mountain Ave. and turn north towards the mountains. Follow Mountain all the way to 'the mountains'.

When you reach the top of Mountain Ave., there is a stop sign. Watch for oncoming traffic.

Turn left on Mt. Baldy road and follow it for about a mile.

There is a yellow gate and turnout on the mountain side; Palmer Evey Mountain Way.

Grab a place to park.

THE CHEAP SEATS:

There are no facilities at the trail head. Adjustments should be made prior to arrival.

PARKING:

There is parking by the gate and across the road...

We will meet at the trail head at 8:45 am & start at 9:00 am. (If I get out of work late, then we will meet a bit later...).

The fine print:

Do NOT bring your dogs, cats, canaries, drama, +1’s or other pets.

No whining, sassing or throwing looks.

You will have about 10 minutes to complain about work, politics & current affairs... After that; enjoy the scenery...

I will take your confession(s) as necessary... after that; enjoy the scenery...

Rules of the road & proper etiquette:

Walking, up hill has the right of way; downhill yields to uphill.

Runners, yield to all walkers & horses.

Bikes, yield to all walkers & horses.

Horses have right of way on all accounts.

Showing off:

Getting to the top first or being the fastest on the trail: no one cares.

It's about the experience, scenery & friends...

Straying from the purer faith:

If you decide to go off on your own: you will be on your own.

Let someone know should you decide to bow out early...
